Mayor Goodman is right, of course. Las Vegas loses its purpose for existence if the country goes into permanent shutdown mode. They have to reopen, otherwise people won't want to stay there.

A lot of her constituents are receiving more now in relief than they ever did working in a hotel. I can understand why they want this to continue. But it just ain't possible

Historically, the CLV Mayor is just a figurehead, whereas the City Manager runs the city. The mayor is just one vote of many on the City Council.
Downtown is in the city limits, but the strip falls under the Clark Co. Commission purview which is separate from the City.
She has very little political power.
