But for starters -- It's heartless and cutthroat.

It can get out of control easily (see; Depression, Great)

But it is also the best economic system ever devised. It works.

Capitalism delivered.

The key benefit of capitalism is the de-centralization of power bases. With socialism you put all your power in one basket. One group has political and economic power, and it also controls the use of controlled violence, i.e. militaries and police forces. With capitalism (with a dash of federalism) those power bases are spread amongst competing groups.
