many have not been charged with anything, but have been held in prison for years with no access to lawyers. no indictments, and no court dates. Those people should be released and compensated for false imprisonment. Anyone who actually damaged property or injured a person (there were none) should be held accountable.

Yes that's normal. If you are arrested and can't afford bail or are denied bail, you sit in jail until the court's can make time in their schedules.
When you get sentenced, the judge knocks off the pre-trial time in prison as "time served".
Courts get very busy and there have been people who have been locked up for as long as 5 or 6 years before they actually go to trial.

Ironically, the far right never really had an issue with this until their own were being arrested.
