I've been thinking about this recently, and I just heard a podcast with Bill Ackman, and he put it into words I hadn't considered.
Every alcoholic, drug user, or other type of addict, usually has what they call a "rock bottom", where the behaviors associated with the addiction cause the addict to do something so disgraceful, humiliating, and/or dangerous, that they finally see the error of their ways, and can no longer deny the damage done.
I think the days after Hamas' terror attacks on Israel was that rock bottom for the left, many of whom have become addicted to hate/bigotry/anti-Semitism, particularly through radicalization in the media and academia. So-called Americans were openly waving Hamas flags, cheering the brutal torture and murder of Israeli men, women, and children, burning American flags, attacking American Jews on college campuses and elsewhere, and cheering the taking of hostages.
The road back from rock bottom to recovery is usually a painful one that requires a lot of humility and self-examination. Based on what I'm seeing from the left as far as reactions to the election, I don't think that recovery is going well so far, do you?
