The emergency is ongoing because Trump also cut funding to fight gang violence and famine in their home countries, worsening the crisis.

You had NO problem at the southern border when you elected the orange menace. Trump wanted a border crisis to justify building his useless wall, so he created one. His threats to close the border made people make the run to try to get in before he really did close the border. Then he cut funding to fight the cartels and the gangs worsening conditions in their home countries, driving still more refugees to make the run. Worsen climate change weather has lead to extreme drought and famine.

Republican politicians with ambition know that they can pander to xenophobes. Thus, rather that petitioning their congressional representatives and senators to legislate the comprehensive national policy concerning immigration long desperately needed, they use desperate women, children, and men as headline-grabbing political ammunition.

Personally, I have no problem with regions vulnerable to asylum-seekers being relieved of the unequal onus, but targeting American communities by their political affinities is a calculated stunt that ignores their humanity. Why do the self-promoters not allow their targeted communities to prepare to practice the Christian corporal works of mercy - sheltering the homeless, feeding the hungry, etc. -
