I am so sick and tired of political conservatives knee-jerk defense of corporations that do evil against society. Case in point: Merck pharmaceuticals SHOULD NOT EXIST as it was proven in court that they knowingly marketed a product that could kill people (which it did). Instead, a few personnel shuffles, some money paid out, and Merck is STILL in business.....defenders saying that shutting them down would hurt thousands of employees, etc., etc.

Well, who said that there are not people who could easily replace the entire Merck leadership, board of directors and such? And if the "logic" is that they've learned their lesson and will never do it again, then why not release THOUSANDS OF PRISONERS doing time for 1 murder? After all, they've learned their lesson, paid their debt and promise to never do it again, right?

God indeed bless America, because we need all the help we can get!

I agree!

Those Evil Republicans in the Senate passed the Monsanto Protection act and that Slime Republican President Obama signed it!

Wait, Obama IS a Republican right? I mean he acts like one, all cozying up to the Banks and Special Interests.

Agriculture does more "evil to society" than any other corporate culture. Yet no one complains, because "God made a farmer". On top of it all, that industry is afforded billions in true subsidies.

On this point, you're right. Everyone keeps forgetting that Obama's political record is NOT the ultra-liberal that the neocon/teabagger bullhorn keeps telling us, but a right of center Democrat.....which explains this and a lot of other actions.

This is why this country needs MORE viable political parties, IMHO.

Get rid of Agriculture! Force everyone (except for the Ruling Elite, of course), to drink SOYLENT instead of eating real food.

The Experiment

There are no meats, fruits, vegetables, or breads here. Besides olive oil for fatty acids and table salt for sodium and chloride nothing is recognizable as food. I researched every substance the body needs to survive, plus a few extras shown to be beneficial, and purchased all of them in nearly raw chemical form from a variety of sources. The section on the ingredients ended up being quite long so I'll save that for a future post. The first morning my kitchen looked more like a chemistry lab than a cookery, but I eventually ended up with an thick, odorless, beige liquid. I call it 'Soylent'. At the time I didn't know if it was going to kill me or give me superpowers. I held my nose and tepidly lifted it to my mouth, expecting an awful taste.

Evil corporations? Where would you have people work and have gainful employment? Perhaps if everyone just quit their jobs and became bakers and basket weavers in some communal community your utopian dreams might be realized.

Speaking of government approved programs which are LETHAL:

...In February 2011, McCarthy's Air and Radiation office at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved HFO-1234yf for use in American cars.

It also offers incentives to automakers using the product — such as General Motors, which currently uses HFO-1234yf in its Cadillac XTS vehicles (and European Chevy Malibus) and plans to feature it fleetwide over the next five years.

In Europe, HFO-1234yf is the only product meeting new European Union "greenhouse gas" guidelines — meaning it could be standard in more than 14 million vehicles a year beginning in 2017 (which would be worth an estimated $1 billion annually to Honeywell).

"This new chemical helps fight climate change and ozone depletion," McCarthy said of HFO-1234yf in 2011 while serving as administrator of the EPA's Air and Radiation office. "It is homegrown innovative solutions like this that save lives and strengthen our economy."

Is any of that true, though? Last August at Mercedes-Benz' test track in Sindelfingen, Germany, engineers simulated a crash in which the refrigerant was sprayed onto the car's hot engine.

The result? The substance burst into flames as soon as it made contact.

Not only that, as it burned it emitted hydrogen fluoride, "a chemical far more deadly to humans than hydrogen cyanide, emitted in such amounts that it turned the windshield white as it began to eat into the glass."

(snip)

In light of all these issues why would the EPA approve and incentivize the use of such a deadly and environmentally hazardous chemical?

It is no secret that President Obama enjoys an especially close relationship with Honeywell CEO Dave E. Cote. Mr. Cote not only supported Mr. Obama's 2009 "stimulus," he also introduced Mr. Obama at a White House briefing promoting the plan.

"We need to get this thing done," Mr. Cote said in introducing Mr. Obama. "As for Honeywell, you can count on us and all of our employees to be there to help support this."

According to OpenSecrets.org, Honeywell lobbied Congress on the issue of hydrofluorocarbons from 2009-2011 — right up until the EPA's approval of HFO-1234yf. While it's not clear what they were pushing for, a ban on these substances would have dramatically increased demand for the new refrigerant.

Whether this is a case of crony capitalism or the "green agenda" run amok remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: Gina McCarthy approved the promotion of a dangerous product that threatens American lives and jobs.

That's the real danger here — not global warming or a "killer coolant," but a rogue agency and the woman who would lead it, who are willing to sacrifice consumer safety on the altar of radical ideology.

would this philosophy also apply to the knee jerk defense by liberals of government entities that do harm to society.

An intellectually honest person would answer yes...but that doesn't cover the OP.

Learn to READ CAREFULLY AND COMPREHENSIVELY, genius. I stated " I am so sick and tired of political conservatives knee-jerk defense of corporations that do evil against society

I DID NOT say ALL corporations, and I gave an EXAMPLE of what TYPE of corporate evil I'm talking about.

Got that bunky?

This is why there should be more viable political parties and MORE citizen action to their representatives. Obama is a "right of center" Democrat....which is why he caves so readily to stuff like this. The EPA is "rogue" to teabaggers and neocons when it's convenient for them in their "get Obama" agenda....note that you have NO complaints from them regarding what I said about Merck and other corporations like them. Nope, it's the "evil lib'ral gov't" that's to blame.

:eusa_eh: You can't have one without the other. Just saying.

would this philosophy also apply to the knee jerk defense by liberals of government entities that do harm to society.

Yep. You can't have one (a bad corporation) functioning without the other (a compliant gov't agency). BOTH need to be revamped to SERVE THE BEST INTEREST OF THE PEOPLE.

As terrible as it is, it is necessary to acknowledge that the nutball mind lacks the capacity for non-Manichean thought.

Worse, what passes for liberal thought is similarly Manichean.

Hilariously, the primary differences between the clowns populating both partisan circuses are the corporations owning their respective clownshows.

Actually, you're painting true liberals and conservatives with the "extreme" brush that covers current GOP in Congress and some of the Dems in the House & Senate. Just saying.

Piss off clownboi.

tachipinko LOVES the socialistic bureaucrat state, the FDA included....He just believes that socialist wankers like himself are better at running it.

But then it's all the fault of corporations when his beloved bureauclods fail.

No one posting here has more contempt for government the post-IKE US government than me.

Nutball cocksuckers like you really are something. As much contempt as I have for Obama, my special loathing is for the scum of the god damned earth too stupid to manage facts their faces have been rubbed in for thirty years. Fuck you, butt boy.

Yeah, whatever.

When you come back wanting to completely shut down protection rackets like the FDA and prosecuting it's corrupt as sin bureaucrats and regulators, come get me...Otherwise, apologists for the bureaucratic leviathan like you are as much the problem as any corporation.

BTW, did you happen to notice the the moonbat OP sourced nothing and just launched into a tirade about what scum anyone and everyone who doesn't want the the head of the CEO of Merck on a pike is, and proceeded into a general ad hom attack on anyone who dared to not agree with him?
