What's wrong with this picture?

Next time - no photo. They can't handle it. I'm wondering if they'd be so compassionate if she had blonde hair and blue eyes. It wouldn't change my position, but I have a feeling it might change ravi's.

Now I'm even more curious about the whole situation. If Ms. Kelley is a full time student, wouldn't she be disqualified from collecting unemployment? Hmmm. Have to do some more investigating. lol

"What's wrong with this picture"?

In my not so humble opinion posting it is divisive, posting it is race baiting and posting it serves no high purpose; rather it continues to pit black v. white and expose the poor or less well off to ridicule.
I wonder what motivates Chanel, an educated women if in fact she is a public school teacher, in posting such a photo - red meat if you will for the bigots?

Wrong as usual.
Why not comment on the facts, rather than veiled insults.

1) This "needy" woman "can't" pay her heat bill.
2) She complains about the bill while standing in front of an at least 60" widescreen TV and Xbox 360.
3) She has a smart phone with a data plan that cost probably between $75-$100 per month.

So...it is bigotry and/or racism to critique that need knowing the above?

Hardly.

Thanks for sharing.

WOODY MARSHALL/THE TELEGRAPH Showing her Georgia Power bills in the one warm room of her home, Raymeica Kelly explains how her mother, sister and herself were turned away from the Energy Assistance Program on Wednesday morning after standing in line for four hours. All three complained that the system the Macon-Bibb County Economic Opportunity Council uses to give out the assistance needs improving.

Looks like the Socialist agenda is running outta money...instead of taking the time to teach these people to be self-sufficient...the government had made them reliant...upon others....

And now in the economic crunch...the funds are running dry...so much for utopia.

you have become fixated on race it appears at the exclusion of discussing her point. I think you are you are projecting or trying to take the topic OT willfully.

Projecting? LOL. I simply pointed out my opinion on the OP; no need for anyone who disagrees to get hysterical or begin to attack me personally (well, I guess some may have a need, the ones too dumb*** to post an opinion based on a formulated idea or who react with emotion and not reason).
So you disagree. Fine, what high purpose did Chanel have in posting this photo and asking such a question? If not race baiting, what? Of course maybe she simply wanted to ridicule those who expect something for nothing.
If so, why limit it to those who simply feel entitled to heat? Why not expand the ridicule to those who live in great wealth, maybe to the CEO's who earn $ millions of dollars each year and feel entitled to tax breaks and special tax rates or no taxes on capital gains; or the Koch brothers, Sam Walton's kids, Paris Hilton and others whose wealth came at birth?

That is funny.
That TV is at least a $1200 system. Then I also see an XBox 360.
Yes of course that is asinine.
I think it is easy to assume that it is that exact kind of poor choices that puts her in the position she is in.

I can buy a bigger TV than that for less than $500 bucks right now.

No you can't. At minimum that is a 55", though I would say a 60"
But even if you could, $500 could buy her electricity through January.

And you know when she bought it? How long have Xbox360's been out?
How do you know the Xbox was not a gift? My friend has an Xbox that her dad bought her son, along with a big screen tv.

she posted the pic as it was necessary to her premise; the objects of relative worth .....and the apparent 'poverty' conflict.

You zoomed straight to strawman status, using the well worn tool of attacking the posters personal motivation inferring she used this as an instrument to employ her bias, expounding on her vocation as if that is somehow germane which was really, just a cheap tool to question her intellect or standing.

Then she can go to that person and ask for help rather than the taxpayer to pay for her heat....she can call him/her on her $200 cell phone with a $75-$100 per month plan.

The Xbox is at least three years old, who knows how old the tv is. Do you realize that the worst time for people is when they first start a job?

Kelley said she was unemployed for a year before recently landing a job. But her bills have stacked up while she was unemployed, and she needs the assistance.

So, she bought the Xbox before she was on unemployment, and you have a problem with this? She couldn't get $50 for the thing now, especially if it has had the rings of death.
Way to judge someone without knowing the facts Chanel, once again.

Do you know she has a cell phone? Is it in the picture? Did they say that in the article?
You guys are a bunch of assholes, and should be proud.:cuckoo:

A couple things hilarious in this thread.

The first is two individuals complaining about others making assumptions...while the basis of their complaint...IS an assumption itself.
Secondly, it is always the same for liberals: Anyone who DARES to critique someones need for public assistance must be either a racist or a bigot.

I am also not surprised the woman Chanel used was black. We all know how Chanel loves african americans and mexicans.

You know what is funny about being on a messageboard for two years? You get to know certain posters. Every thread like this that Chanel starts, is either about a muslim, black person, or a Latino. If the shoe fits.

Read the thread .
She posted on her facebook yesterday several times from her cellphone.
In order to do that, you must have a data plan - and a smart phone.

I cannot speak to her past I am still relatively new here. But I will say that all it takes is a few to make a 'reputation' nowadays and imho unfairly as each should be taken on their own merit,( to an extent yes).

I mean look at it this way, the media bombards us with the poor, who are the poor they hold up ? minorities? yes? so when you see a story like that driven BY the media, asking a question is out of bounds?

Show me an Appalachia white in the same circumstances and you'll get the same response I bet, what the hell is up with that, money for this that, no savings? Can you find a photo like that and its story, I took 10 minutes and could not ...though I suppose there are some out there somewhere. *shrugs*
