When Push Comes to Shove, Our European 'Allies' Are Paper Tigers

“So my country's position is clear: NATO should welcome Georgia and Ukraine into the Membership Action Plan.”
But Bush didn’t garner support from key allies, including France, Germany and others, The New York Times reported, amid fears the decision would inflame tensions with Russia. And indeed, Putin — still serving in his first stint as president"
Bush took out Georgia in his equation/demand - thus Ukraine's accession to NATO was signed by Bush & NATO in 2005, and again elaborated, expanded and signed in 2008 by Bush & it's NATO partners via the Budapest memorandum.

And this issue/discussion is entirely in regards to Ukraine and not Georgia.

OK. My main point was that Bush pushed for Ukraine in NATO, and the EU powers said "NO".

Security for Ukraine requires NATO membership. Russia will not poke that bear.
If the EU NATO allies refuse membership, then they are serious about security for Ukraine.

BOTH - the European NATO members and Bush had agreed onto the NATO membership bid of Ukraine in 2005.

BOTH - the European NATO members and Bush agreed in 2008 to take Ukraine & Georgia into the NATO MAP process. (Bucharest Summit, sorry not Budapest). aka 21st NATO Summit in Bucharest on 2nd of April 2008.

However Putin then launched in August 2008 his attack onto Georgia - Due to this issue, the European NATO members and Bush decided to take out Georgia from the NATO MAP process. Whilst the MAP process for Ukraine carried on.

23. NATO welcomes Ukraine’s and Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations for membership in NATO. We agreed today that these countries will become members of NATO. Both nations have made valuable contributions to Alliance operations. We welcome the democratic reforms in Ukraine and Georgia and look forward to free and fair parliamentary elections in Georgia in May. MAP is the next step for Ukraine and Georgia on their direct way to membership. Today we make clear that we support these countries’ applications for MAP....

Putin didn't attack Georgia in 2008 he was not President Medvedev was, and he went into Georgia after that US puppet Saackashvili attacked South Ossetia killing civilians and Russian peacekeepers.

Rush Limbaugh was right about the U.N. It resembles the bar scene from Star Wars more than a international union. The same goes for NATO. NATO members depend on good old Uncle Sam for weapons, manpower and money. England and France never did thank the U.S. for the fact that they don't speak German today.

True. But now Trump is telling the EU countries to get serious about defending themselves. We're cutting US costs.

"In 2010, during the presidency of Viktor Yanukovych, the Ukrainian parliament voted to abandon the goal of NATO membership and re-affirm Ukraine's neutral status, while continuing its co-operation with NATO. In the February 2014 Ukrainian Revolution, Ukraine's parliament voted to remove Yanukovych, but the new government did not seek to change its neutral status. Russia then occupied and annexed Crimea, and in August 2014 Russia's military invaded eastern Ukraine to support its separatist proxies. Because of this, in December 2014 Ukraine's parliament voted to end its neutral status, and in 2018 it voted to enshrine the goal of NATO membership in the Constitution."

So Putin's puppet Yanukovich, nixed the NATO membership in 2010, possibly to avoid an invasion by Russia like in Georgia.

Then in 2014 Russia invaded to keep Ukraine in its sphere of influence. Here we are.

Those that are have avoided going to war for your benefit. Thanks to Trump any wars in Europe will most likely be our fault ....... not yours. That will be a new experience for sure. Hallelujah!

Still lying about Russia invading Ukraine in 2014, 2014 was the start of the civil war when the Kiev Regime attacked Donbass and Yanukovych was overthrown by violence.

I have no idea what little Vlodo is doing. He isn't stupid enough to think Europe has their back.

As if Russia would ever contemplate allowing a mixed bag of EU people to keep the peace .
We here in the UK have enough difficulty tolerating these chinless wonders , so obviously Moscow would give them short shrift .

It's nearly as silly as suggesting that the US , which has forgotten what peace is , takes the role .

Of course , cowardly America is always keen to get others to do the dirty work, possibly because matters always go very badly, once they get directly involved .

Best to leave Pooters enough free time to sort out the expanded BRICS , ready to take over from the collapsing US $ .
