You know, that institution that used to exist where blacks were enslaved. That we fought a Civil War to end? That many blacks these days laughingly want "reparations" for? Who started it all. It was a black person named Anthony Johnson. He was at one time an indentured servant who was freed after his indentured servitude. He went on to be successful. He himself got 4 indentured servants. Three White and one black.

The black one's name was John Castor. After his period of indentured servitude, Johnson didn't free him. But he went to work for a neighbor anyway. Johnson sued to get him back. The first trial ended where the neighbor got to keep him. But on appeal, Jonson was given the right to own him and got him back. That set the legal precedent. So for all the blacks who complain about their ancestors having been slaves, they have a black person to blame for it. And for those seeking reparations for slavery, they should look for the descendants of Anthony Johnson and try to get it from them.

Just FYI, the boards' leading expert on reparations figures $100 trillion dollars is about the right amount to be paid.

You do realize that it was English Law that made the indentured servants into slaves.

I don't think many from your party know that fact. Haley, for instance...

Perhaps if you supplied an actual photograph of the real Anthony Johnson, it would contribute to advancing discussion of the topic.

The above picture was reported many years ago as actually being that of a man named Lewis Hayden, who escaped slavery and became instrumental in the Underground Railroad.

His story is in the link below.

no source posted. better hurry

Still it doesn't compute. Why would some work as a indentured servant in order to be set free as a reward. Yeah I think it was a scam. Yeah you work and I will set you free in a few years. Well maybe. I guess it sounds better than slavery.

usually it work for apprenticeship to learn a trade from the master and eventually move on. or to repay a debt.

How about that picture of Lewis Hayden isnt the same picture of Anthony Johnson. Nice try bud, but it was a black man who sued to keep his black slaves in chains, and the English Law allowed him to. The rest is history.

Nice try? I have nothing that I'm "trying" to do..

Feel free to post a link supporting that story.

That being said, it appears to be rather odd that such a detailed background of Lewis Hayden is attached to the photograph of one who is supposed to be Anthony Johnson.

Other than that, I recall having this same pointless conversation in a different forum about 20 years ago.

Again, that photo of Anthony Johnson doesnt look like the other guy, or are you saying "that all blacks look alike"?

Anthony Johnson (?-1670) •
In addition to being a landowner, Anthony Johnson was also a slaveholder. Court records reveal that Johnson won a 1655 case against white planter, Robert Parker, to retain ownership of Johnson’s slave, John Casor. Casor, with the help of Robert Parker, tried to claim that he was an indentured servant, not a slave. Although the courts initially found in Parker’s favor, temporarily freeing Casor, they subsequently reversed the decision, returning Casor to the service of his master, Anthony Johnson.

Blacks owned slaves in Africa. They also sold them to whoever they chose. Same with Arab slave traders.

The African slave trade existed long before the great Christopher Columbus discovered the New World.

The black pirates would raid cities in Europe and enslave white people. Dont hear much about that, where are my reparations for that crap?

That's not a photo of Anthony Johnson. Anthony Johnson's life and death predates the invention of photography.

Of course, an uneducated person couldn't see the difference there and realize that it was the 1600s when Anthony sued to keep the slaves. Photography came out in the 1800s in the states. Maybe someone needs to go back to school and read up on history before that someone opens his pie hole?

No time to "play" silly games of semantics and visual perception, or waste time defending infantile accusations of assuming that "All blacks look alike".

They look like the same person, and if one accounts for aging at different points of one's life, they could definitely be the same individual.

That aside, here is another source showing who Lewis Hayden was, and his bio and has the same photo of the "alleged" Anthony Johnson attached to it.
