Deep in the heart of Texas.
A government shutdown is possible and as usual we are getting the typical hysterical responses to it since no essential services will be affected and if it happens it will likely be for only a few days so why the over the top freak outs? We had this same type of doom and gloom stuff leading up to the sequester cuts yet the impact on the nation from them barely made a ripple so putting aside all the partisan rhetoric does anyone honestly think a shutdown will have a major impact on the country?

A government shutdown would hinder the economy, waste billions of dollars in federal funds and put a scare in the markets, according to experts. It’s already causing a slowdown in normal operations for agencies and businesses.

The Office of Management and Budget estimated in 1996 that the two closures in that fiscal year, which lasted 26 days total, cost the government $1.4 billion, or roughly $2.1 billion in today’s dollars.

A government shutdown is pointless partisan idiocy on the part of republicans.

You basing that one anything other than your partisan viewpoint? If your planning on pointing to your link keep in mind it's from something that is well over ten years old and is nothing more than a estimate which is simply a fancier way of saying guessing.

My only regret is that they are not likely to shut it down for long enough.
Apparently you would like to see those who depend on Social Security not receive their checks. How about the military? Are you okay with the monthly paychecks not be sent to the soldiers who are serving this country? Are you good with all the national parks closing down? All of the federal agencies? Last time this happened the stock market dropped 2000 points. Do you think this is good for citizens who have invested in the stock market. People who are smarter than you or I and who have studied this pretty much their whole lives are predicting that our credit rating will be reduced which will add to our national debt and which could start us back on the road to a depression. Maybe you would be wise to do a bit of research on the economic disaster you are calling for.

Why the hysteria? Because if we can actually sit down and have a rational debate like adults instead of being told to call Congress and cry "Oh God, oh God, we're all going to die!" then maybe we'll realize it isn't as bad as one side or the other is proclaiming a situation to be.

Plus it's good for rating to keep people on edge. "If it bleeds it leads" gets viewers which gets advertising dollars.

The word is...all those checks will still go out.

As for the parks, so? Why do we NEED the parks open? The Agencies will still have people working in them, just less. You may have to wait a little longer for something. And your side say the republicans are fearmongers???

Apparently some people don't understand what essential programs will not be affected means In a government shutdown, spending for functions considered essential, related to national security or public safety, would continue along with benefit programs such as Medicare health insurance and Social Security retirement benefits for seniors.

Now, why wouldn't the press make sure to point that out instead of the whole "we're all going to die!!!!" spiel we've been getting?

Military and social security checks will continue to flow. Key programs will continue to function.

And hell's bells, if the EPA is cut off for a few months of doing more damage to the economy this will be the shut down will be the best thing that has happened in a long, long time.

For information purposes, breakout by Agency on shutdown plans;

Impact of a government shutdown on federal agencies - The Washington Post

For example; Treasury...

"The Treasury Department would continue disbursements of Social Security funds, automated revenue collections and the work of daily cash management for the government, in addition to paying interest on the federal debt. But the department’s largest component, the Internal Revenue Service, would cease some of its key functions such as audits, examinations of returns, processing of paper returns, and call-center operations for taxpayers with questions."

I don't see any problem.

maybe that is why leftards and LSM are in hysteria seizures

Maybe, their ghosts are coming back to haunt our congressmen. Since the late 80's, they have refused to give America substantive change in society, finance, education etc.

This cannot go on forever. Something has to give.

the hysteria on the left is actually because they are scared to death that the R tactic may work - as it did in 1995 - and Republicans might get what they want.
