This is nuts. Family is family and sure I might not agree with some of my family matters politically but they're still my family nonetheless. That's why I always say that politics aren't everything. As long as you're a good person and are nice to me on here I'll like you even if you're a democrat or lean somewhat towards the left. Slade3200 is my favorite person on here who isn't a conservative because he knows that family and friendship should be a whole lot more important than who you vote for.

I would never disinvite someone because of their political views .

Besides in the real world democrats tend to be a whole lot friendlier than on here. Well at least like neighbors, friends, and family members and all that. I know that I get a lot of shade on here for being nice to some lefties but all I care about is the way you treat me and treat other people. I recently found out that bdtex is actually pretty nice outside politics as well. :)

I tend to be rather quiet ,being i'm in with a small red dot of folks in a blue state with this guy>>>

Let me put a tiny twist on this.

If you knew that a democrat family member had her undies in such a twist over the election she intended to ruin thanksgiving for everybody by bitching thru the entire dinner...and before...and after...

Would you dis-invite her?

Good point. That goes along the same lines as you can hangout with me and be my friend if you're a democrat, just please leave your politics at the door,.. or when it comes to on here, I don't care what you're political party is as long as you're polite and respectful towards me. A few lefties or somewhat lefties are. Slade3200, bdtex, White 6, Michael1985, and John Edgar Slow Horses, Coyote are the ones that I can honestly say I like, I just don't (or don't always when it comes to White as sometimes I do) like their politics.

I had a good friend who pretended to be a Nazi, he was a little messed up, needed alcohol to get to sleep, said he mother was actually quite right wing and he kind of mocked her for it, but also admitted he kind of admired the Nazis.

A person is a person, but I guess if you don't like a family member AND they have such politics, it makes it easy to say it's the politics.

I would not disinvite any family member based upon their political stance, however, there are a couple of exceptions:
1. If they themselves say they no longer wish to be with the family on Thanksgiving and Christmas. That would be fine with me, and I wouldn't waste money for a gift for them either.
2. If they regularly complain about the meal while still gobbling down most of the desserts. I'll toss them out.

Trumplings are not welcome

Politics is just another word for who gets what.

I agree with you on this. When I think about my relatives, there's a mixture of political views... conservatives, independents, some who aren't into politics at all, but also a few lefty Democrats as well. I would never not invite someone just because they have different views, I think that's lame and immature.

And I also agree with you about liking people not based on their politics but seeing people as individuals. I'll probably ruffle some feathers here for saying this, but I think it's an ugly and very sad outlook on life to hate everyone who has different political views, or call an entire group of people evil or "scum." I take things on a case by case basis, but I've known some Dems who are actually good-hearted, just misguided...they have good intentions but don't realize they're believing lies or political ideas that don't work. Plus, people can and do change, so... you're not gonna get through to anyone by hating them and treating them like crap. IMV anyway.

Seems you believe all family members are nice people and won't start unnecessary shit at a family get together. Perhaps your family is. That's not true for all my family. I love them all, but I'm not gonna put up with their bullshit all afternoon.

I haven't had a Thanksgiving dinner with my dad and older sister since the mid 90s. I'd like to dedicate this awesome country song to both of them. "I guess some things just don't mix like you hope, like me and you and diamond rings and old bar stools."

God bless you and Tim always!!!

Holly

P.S. Just being related to them is punishment enough. In other words, I pray that "guilt by association" is never dumped on my plate because I haven't had a thing to do with either one of them in years.
