Four months ago Obama called Yemen s war on terror a success. Now the Yemeni government may fall. - The Washington Post

It was only months ago that President Obama declared Yemen to be a "success" on the war against terror. Of course, that was before Shiite rebels overran the failing government. Obama praised Yemen because they helped participate in the war against the much feared Al Qaeda in the region. However, many at the time questioned this assessment and realized that Yemen was on the brink of becoming an all out terrorist state like Shiite Iran.

So if Obamabots think Yemen is a success, then what does failure look like?

ABC Reporter Pushes Back Against WH Press Secretary Over Counterterrorism Claim That s Astounding Video TheBlaze.com

Apparently the Obama administration is not backing down. They still see Yemen, whom Saudi Arabia is currently bombing, as a model of success in the region.

White House press secretary Josh Earnest faced some pushback on Wednesday after he claimed that the Obama administration still believes Yemen can serve as a successful model for “counterterrorism.”

ABC reporter Jonathan Karl noted that “complete chaos” has gripped Yemen as the country faces a bloody struggle against radical rebel forces and asked if the White House still views Yemen as a counterterrorism “model.”

The reporter seemed surprised when Earnest said the White House is maintaining its position.

Earnest told reporters on Wednesday that a “successful counterterrorism strategy is one that will build up the capacity of the central government to have local fighters on the ground to have local fighters take the fight to extremists in their own country.” He added that the counterterrorism strategy is a “template that has succeeded in mitigating the threat in Yemen and Somalia.”

“That’s astounding,” Karl responded. “You’re saying you still see Yemen as a model? Building up a central government, which has now collapsed? A president who has apparently fled the country? You know, Saudi troops massing on one border, the Iranians supporting the rebels? You consider this a model for counterterrorism?”

So a country overthrows it's government for a totally unrelated reason, and that's our problem, why?
No one suggested it is our problem. The reporter was surprised at Obama's assessment of the situation, that Yemen was a model of counterterrorism when the leader had to flee and the cities were under siege. Again, Obama demonstrates his cluelessness of geopolitical situations. We need a real leader.

again, we wouldn't be in this situation if Bush hadn't escalated a terrorist incident into a world war.

Are you going to talk about Obama's failing assessment or not?

Why? It's all Bush's fault.

Of course things change, but what is mind perplexing is that after those changes the administration is still declaring Yemen to be a success.

Now I know the definition of crazy and stupid in the dictionary, but neither terms really describes what is going on here. Perhaps we need a whole new term altogether in order to describe Obama.

Some people think it's a good idea for this country to get involved in someone else's civil war, again.

Josh Earnest!!!

Kafka could not have made up a more absurd name.

Oh STFU already.

I personally think we should withdraw from the entire region, tell them to eat oil, and let the Caliphate be established.

Once they had the Muslim world to run, they'd be far too busy to fuck with us.

We are already spread too thin, our ability to influence events becomes less and less as we involve ourselves in the internal affairs of more countries.

The goal of our strategy in Yemen was to fight AQAP, not the Houthis. The current conflict isn't the one that President Obama was talking about.

Yemen was showcased as a successful model through which to combat terrorist groups like AQAP, it was not showcased as a successful political state. You are conflating two completely separate issues.

Are you going to talk about Obama's failing assessment or not?

is there something to talk about? The arrangment we had with the government there worked pretty well. The fact it was toppled by a completely unrelated set of incidents has little to do with anything.
But, by all means, continue to indulge your Obama Derangement Syndrome.

Yea, Obama was just as successful in Libya as well it seems.

At least he got the ambassador out in time this time. I guess he has learned a bit.
