No one besides the most extreme anti-civil rights zealots support laws through which ex-lovers, disgruntled employees, nosy neighbors, and former roommates can file orders of protection against others, and have those peoples' civil rights violated.

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, launched an investigation Thursday morning into the Biden administration’s recently announced National Extreme Risk Protection Order Resource Center.

“Extreme risk protection order” is lefty-speak for red flag law.

Breitbart News reported that Vice President Kamala Harris (D) announced the launch of the center on Saturday, along with $750 million in funds that will be given to it by the Biden administration.

Jordan then used to the letter to highlight the myriad problems with red flag laws, including the threat such laws pose to due process:

These laws are ripe for abuse as the list of individuals who can petition a court for an extreme risk protection is expansive. For example, in Hawaii, a former roommate or even a disgruntled employee can file for an extreme risk protection order. In California, a former roommate, employee, a former girlfriend or even someone in a “dating relationship” with an individual is able to file a petition for an extreme risk protection order.
Additionally, many jurisdictions merely require that a showing of probable cause be met in order to seize an individual’s firearms and ammunition and to prohibit that individual from purchasing or possessing any firearms or ammunition. Probable cause is an astonishingly low standard to deprive an individual of his or her constitutional rights without an allegation of criminal activity or an opportunity for the individual to be heard. Currently, fifteen states have laws that will grant an extreme risk protection order using this low standard.

This occurs often in Canada and there is little to no recourse for the "accused".

We even have kids of cops spying and reporting on classmates in public school!

I warned you guys about socialism. Recall my words "the economic harm isn't the most dangerous part, it is the covert police apparatus that will expand and destroy you".

Like Washington I cannot tell a lie.

More Kabuki--investigating a center that does not even exist, except on paper, at the moment.

Just some chum for the base..the money has been allocated...not a lot Congress can do.

Yo dufus...if a student sees another student with a gun..perhaps it's a good thing they tell someone?

Red Flag laws work. If there is the occasional case of over-reach---seems a better price to pay than bodies in the schoolyard.

Will there ever be enough bloodshed to satisfy our gun huggers? Those are Other Peoples kids being slaughtered in their classrooms or grocery stores, churches, synagogues, bowling alleys, concerts, etc. They believe that owning dozens of guns make them bulletproof.

I've got that covered.

I have a motion sensor hooked up to a camera aimed at my gunsafe.

If any of them escape, I'll have video proof I had nothing to do with any damage it caused.

You think that's what the kids of cops are doing here?

As you use name calling like a school yard clown look in the mirror. You are ignorant or compromised.

Let me give you a prime example. It ruined my life and I was a teen at the time. A current cop, who was a fellow student at the time, quietly accused me of a having a gun at school. I believe now years later it was his friend, who is also a cop today and whom I let share my locker with who had the gun. My suspicion? He would conveniently leave the gun in "our" (my) locker and I would be fingered for this bs. All of this, unbeknownst to me regardless, but it helps some become "good earners" and hired as officers years later.

Well, when the police dragged me out of class and search my persons and my locker, there was nothing. Guess who was waiting in the principals office? Two kids who are both today cops.

Do you understand a little clearer now?

Odd that while they take our guns they just gave illegals the ok if they want guns. We can vote these assholes out and keep our Constitution intact...

Well, the question should be, where the hell did Biden get the money to put toward this? A president can't allocate money, that is the job of Congress.
