We don't need to disband the military, that would just drive up unemployment. All we need to do, is bring'em all home back to their families. Close the over 1000 bases around the world and cut the defense budget in half.

I know, liberals want a weak military but that's not good for a superpower. And there are many benefits to being a superpower and our military does a lot of good for us around the world.

Well we're just going to disagree on this as usual. We're not the "big bully on the block" but you go ahead and pretend we are. Our forward deployed forces are beneficial to both us and our allies. We're not bullies, we're helping our allies.

Tell that to the over 2000 innocent civilians we killed with drone strikes.

Yeah, our forces are really beneficial to our allies in other country's. Is that why we spent over $4 trillon dollars on the Iraq war and got nothing in return? We built over 500 bases in that country, the largest embassy in the world and wound up sneaking out in the middle of the night without telling anyone, because we couldn't get the SOFA aggreement we wanted with the puppet government we installed. Which, BTW, was Shia and became closer aligned to Iran. At least Hussein was Iran's enemy.

And our military is so beneficial in Afghanistan, we can't seem to get anything we want there either. We can't train their troops, we can't stop the Taliban from participating in their elections, we can't stop Pakistan from releasing al Qaeda members we turn over to them; about the only think we can get out of Afghanistan, is good hash. Not to mention, the puppet government we installed there, is one of the most corrupt governments in the world.

If our military is so beneficial to our allies, how come none of them would join us on Syria?

But the biggest question I have, is why is it so important for our military to be beneficial to other country's at our expense? What do we get in return? What do we get here, in this country, that is beneficial to us? How is it beneficial to average Americans who are flipping the bill for all this shit?
