This, I believe was the start of terrorism against America. I was aboard USS El Paso when this happened - One mile off shore, at anchor. We brought Marines there and SAT, at anchor, for seven months. Worst damned deployment of my life. Every Saturday we'd get underway to international waters (13 miles out) and dump trash. Then back to anchor for another week. That was about as exciting as it got.
The morning of the bombing, we had a small fire in the galley. It was early Sunday. The crew was told to muster on the flight deck, which we did. It was then we heard the huge explosion, went to General Quarters, and began the grisly task that lied ashore.
God bless the Marines and I will never forget !!!
