Well, the Higgs Particle was tentatively discovered to exist in March 2013 and the 2013 Nobels in physics haven't been announced yet. Beyond which, the Nobels are often awarded years after the initial discovery. Perlmutter, Schmitt, and Reiss figured out that the universe was not only expanding but accelerating back in 1998 and didn't get the Nobel until 2011.

I don't see something like the Human Genome Project getting a Nobel. While it was a worthwhile endeavor, it used technology for which the Nobel was already given back in 1993.
