Genocide and Denying It: Why We Are Not Taught that the Natives of the United States and Canada were Exterminated
Death Toll: 95,000,000 to 114,000,000
American Holocaust: D. Stannard (Oxford Press, 1992) â âover 100 million killedâ â[Christopher] Columbus personally murdered half a million NativesâNative Americans have the highest mortality rate of any U.S. minority because of U.S. action and policy. The biggest killers though were smallpox, measles, influenza, whooping cough, diphtheria, typhus, bubonic plague, cholera, and scarlet fever. All imported by the Europeans colonists.âHitlerâs concept of concentration camps as well as the practicality of genocide owed much, so he claimed, to his studies of English and United States history. He admired the camps for Boer prisoners in South Africa and for the Indians in the wild west; and often praised to his inner circle the efficiency of Americaâs extermination â by starvation and uneven combat â of the red savages who could not be tamed by captivity.â

Native Americans âDisproportionalâ Victims of Fatal Police Shootings
By Michael Gelb | June 30, 2020
The ongoing national conversation regarding police brutality and systemic racism in policing has rightly been focused on African Americans, who are disproportionately the victims of police violence.
However, Native Americans âsuffer the most adverse effects of a criminal justice system which consistently reifies itself as structurally unjust,â according to a report by the Lakota Peopleâs Law Project.
âProportionally, Native Americans are the most likely racial group to be killed by the police,â says the report.
Meanwhile, Native American men are imprisoned at four times the rate of white men, and Native American women at six times the rate of white women.
Despite the frequency with which Native Americans suffer from police brutality and the unjust legal system, they are âroutinely ignore[ed]â in the public discourse on such topics, the report said.
