RIGHT BEHIND YOU
Blaming the destroyed neighborhoods on everything and everybody but who destroyed them...the moron blacks who lived there and elected crooked black politicians solely because they were black. There are thousands of decent God-fearing blacks who live in metro Detroit who are as afraid of the gangs as the whites are. But have they stood and fought to save their homes from the hood rats? Nope. Have they seen the corruption and thrown the bums out? Nope. And so Detroit has become "like Mogadishu" in the eyes of CBS without saying why. So the question that must be asked is are blacks capable of governing themselves, much less the white majority?

Nope.

60 Minutes Compares Detroit To Somalia.

Is Detroit ahead of DC by several years?

Fascism/Socialism are failed doctrines regardless of the race or ethnic color of those who apply them.

.

I don't know anything about DC...I'm from a Detroit suburb. When I was young, you could drive through black neighborhoods without getting a brick through your windshield. After the riots in '67, that was no longer true. A key element in the fall of Detroit is the absolute hatred of whites down there since. And without us whites, they fell apart.

They're both run by Progressives too

Exactly, and why CBS danced around the real reason instead blaming it on "50 years of neglect".....Neglect from what by who? Before the race riot the black neighborhoods were self-sufficient. Blacks owned thier own homes, shopped at their own stores and markets. They were poor but they were free. LBJ went through those neighborhoods with bulldozers for his "urban development" to build freeways and dormitory housing. The unity was gone, the sense of neighborhood followed....an entire community was displaced and misplaced into government prisons disguised as "housing projects". That's what really happened to Detroit....democRATS happened to Detroit. :doubt:

Caught that on 60 minutes last night as well.

Seems Detroit has been going down the shitter for the last 50 years and apparantly no one in the The City or State Govt noticed.

Parts of Detroit look like a war zone. Abandoned buildings, garbage, derelict cars, you name it all over the place. Seems quite a few of the residents have left, a million or more.

Downtown Detroit looks great though. Got a billionair buying up buildings and trying to get businesses to come back. He's certainly doing his part to try to save that city.

Noticed that the reporting didn't mention that Dems had control for the last 50 years. Wonder why??

We had the same thing happen here in New Orleans.. starting in the sixties, white flight set in and there went the tax base. Now property taxes have skyrocketed, they're talking of doubling utility rates... the streets are crumbling, literally.... it's a mess. All that is left are pockets of uber-wealthy and the lots of low rent.

The real hero for downtown is Mike Ilitch who owns the Tigers and Red Wings. He and his wife founded Little Ceasars Pizza...started with one store and grew it into an empire. He built Comerica Park with $80M of his own money and got financing for the rest. He's rebuilt the Fox Theatre District and attracted the Quicken Loans guy to invest there and in Corktown. He's too old to be interviewed and might have croaked last night when Leyland blew Game #2 by screwing around with a 4 run lead in Boston. Anyway, Ilitch bought a Tigers team from the other pizza guy (Dominoes) when the League office had to step in to make payroll and turned them into a contender who draw 3M (white suburban) fans a year. He wasn't even mentioned by leftist CBS.

yes, indeed. If the politicians will get the fuck out of the way and let entrepreneurs like Dan Gilbert, take over, there is a chance that Detroit will be restored.

We need someone like Mr Gilbert at the national level.

I live on the other side of the state, near GR. So I don't get to Detroit too often anymore, I used to take classes for a couple years there. But we went there for the Lions/Vikings game a few weeks ago. It was my first time a Comerica Park...that is AWESOME! When we were leaving we went through a couple pretty bad areas (got turned around!) and got to see all the "Zombieland" buildings. Really sad........

White Flight is old news - and it goes hand-in-hand with Black Migration from the South to the North.

That Black Migration occurred in waves... with the two biggest waves being in the immediate post WWI and immediate post WWII timeframes.

White Flight from Northern cities could usually be observed within 5-10 years of any given 'burst' of Black Immigration from the South.

There are some that say that the South really won the Civil War after all - by pushing its dependent Blacks upon the North - and that it merely took an extra 50-100 years to accomplish it.

With the Victorious North paying the price through the degeneration and disintegration of its prized cities and cultural centers.

Adding to the very strong and very legitimate racial element of the whys-and-wherefores behind the collapse of Northern cities...

We must ALSO add the dismantling of the Manufacturing Base of the North (indeed, the country at-large, but mostly in the North), and the transfer of manufacturing capability to low-wage, low-balling countries overseas, which hastened the collapse of concentrated White Population within many of our cities, as those skilled city-based manufacturing jobs began to evaporate...

When you look at most of our major metropolitan areas nowadays, you find concentrations of Blacks and Hispanics and other racial or ethnic minorities in the disintegrating inner cities, and first and second and third and fourth -generation White Flight folk occupying the suburbs which ring those cities...

Those surrounding 'rings' of White Population are oftentimes located within outlying counties, as well - different than those of the the cities from which they fled - to avoid the extreme and ever-spiraling property and sales taxes which those doomed cities continue to levy in a vain and doomed attempt to stay afloat...

Even such 'collar county' Mostly White Zones suffer from the collapse of the cities because more state-level tax dollars end-up getting shoveled into those shitholes, as well, but at least their country-level taxes remain under their own control, and (usually) at levels that seem far more reasonable and sane than those of the nearby city-in-question...

All of the above relies heavily upon steretotyping and generalizations and there are sure to be a great many variations and exceptions, but, as a general observation applied across the entire nation - and certainly the North - it's not a bad point of departure for dealing with the topic in broad-brush fashion, and probably has some applicability for Detroit, too.

The Lions play at the new Ford Field which is right next to Comerica...both venues are clean and well designed and have max security for fans. I've never been to either or back in MoTown for years but there are folks who want to see the city rebuilt from the center out and that's how it will have to happen. The metro area is HUGE....the outskirts must be sold off to the suburban cities and Detroit proper shrunk down to a manageable size.

I'd also be suspicious of the new "urban farms" popping up on bulldozed land....who knows what type of chemicals are still in that soil from the past? The idea is nice but I'd want to see that the FDA is doing their job for a change and not letting produce laced with solvents out into the marketplace.

Bottom line is white businessmen will have to recapture Detroit. White businessmen created the city and then abandoned it so the circle will have to turn once again. My message is to BUY AN AMERICAN CAR folks....a small sacrifice to rebuild the city that was the heart of the "Arsenal for Democracy" that won WW2.

Oops...shows how "sporty" I am...Lol! Yes...Ford Field~ But I did get to so Comerica, loved the architecture. The area right around it isn't too bad, nice big old buildings. Haven't been down town Detroit in quite a few years, but i like the monorail they have to get around, don't have to walk the streets!

I can't afford to buy a new car, but if I could it would only be a Ford. I don't like Chryslers, have had too many problems, and refuse to buy from GM. Just my opinion :)

Unfortunately, just rebuilding downtown isn't going to do it. It's a huge step in the right direction, but the only way Detroit gets well is when it becomes economically self sufficient.

A thriving downtown where all the jobs are taken by commuters from the burbs isn't going to turn the lights back on because it doesn't put salaries into the hands of city residents, who thereafter would buy houses, improve neighborhoods and pay city taxes.

And the problem with getting the salaries into the hands of Detroiters is that far too many of them lack basic literacy and numeracy skills. Or they lack 'soft skills' (interviewing, behaviors, resume writing. etc.)

If Detroit votes in Benny Napoleon (back, Wayne County sheriff) as Mayor next month, it will be a sign of plus ca change. If they go for Mike Duggan (white, endorsed by the business community, former CEO of Detroit Medical Center), it will potentially be a the loudest signal in decades that Detroiters have spat the race bullet in favor of pragmatism.

If anyone is really interested in what's going on as opposed to just parroting the "white flight" and "black men and Democrats" stuff, that's the story to watch.

The blame game paradigm always carries a scapegoat who must pay. That way, they can continue to trade food stamps for a little cash and buy drugs.

Head over from Grand Rapids for Lions, Tigers and Red Wings games frequently and it's perfectly safe, but you definitely don't want to stray off the beaten paths getting in and out of that part of the city.
