FACT: 61,419,483 Americans were murdered through abortions at the average of 1,535,487 per year for 40 years (2013 - 1973)...

FACT 4 killings per exceptional RARE, 62 events over 31 years or 248 deaths! An average of 2 events per year.. 8 deaths per year..

Since 1982, there have been at least 62 mass shootings* across the country, with the killings unfolding in 30 states from Massachusetts to Hawaii. Twenty-five of these mass shootings have occurred since 2006, and 7 of them have taken place in 2012. We've mapped them below, including details on the shooters' identities, the types of weapons they used, and the number of victims they injured and killed.

The shooter took the lives of at least four people. An FBI crime classification report identifies an individual as a mass murderer—versus a spree killer or a serial killer—if he kills four or more people in a single incident (not including himself), typically in a single location.

AND YOU idiots are falling for this gross exaggeration, rare exceptional situations because the MSM makes it sound like it is happening EVERY DAY!

IDIOTS why are you so upset over 248 deaths when in the same 31 years 47,600,100 people were murdered!

Another answer, drugs, they kill about 38,000+ every year, many more than are killed by firearms. Where's the fauxrage from the left on drugs? Oh that's right, they want to legalize them.

Technically the left mostly wants to legalize just marijuana (if we're talking large scale coordination). Approximately zero people every year overdose on that drug.

I'm sure some folks want all drugs legalized, but that's definitely not a mainstream viewpoint.

I guess you missed the big push that's going on trying to decriminalize drug possession and small scale dealing, claiming they are victimless, non-violent crimes.

The purpose of this thread was to compare all the angst, handwringing photo ops, etc. by the mainstream media over the deaths of an average of 8 deaths/year.

Compared to the average number of deaths by abortions of 1.535 million a year for the last 40 years where is the sense of proportion?
8 deaths versus 1.53 million.
Now I support abortion in case of incest, rape and health of the mother!

3% Baby has possible health problems
<1% Pregnancy caused by rape/incest

Decriminalize which drugs though? The only serious pushes I've ever seen is for marijuana decriminalization/legalization, not really anything for cocaine, heroin, ect. Again, some people are pushing for the legalization of these drugs, just not on a very large mainstream scale.

Marijuana legalization is a no-brainer.

No use spending billions of dollars a year and countless resources policing a drug that's non-toxic, you can't overdose on, and when you smoke it you become calm and reflective. Just ridiculous having to pay the 24/7 prison bills for millions of people due to their involvement with this somewhat harmless drug.

Anyways, we're getting off topic...

This is the first time that drugs have accounted for more fatalities than traffic accidents since the government started tracking drug-induced deaths in 1979. The death toll has doubled in the last decade, now claiming a life every 14 minutes. By contrast, traffic accidents have been dropping for decades because of huge investments in auto safety.
Fueling the surge in deaths are prescription pain and anxiety drugs that are potent, highly addictive and especially dangerous when combined with one another or with other drugs or alcohol. Among the most commonly abused are OxyContin, Vicodin, Xanax and Soma. One relative newcomer to the scene is Fentanyl, a painkiller that comes in the form of patches and lollipops and is 100 times more powerful than morphine.
Such drugs now cause more deaths than heroin and cocaine combined.
Drug deaths now outnumber traffic fatalities in U.S., Times analysis shows - Los Angeles Times

In the United States in 2010,

while for traffic accidents it was 12 per 100,000 or 36,000.
the rate of firearm deaths was 10 people per 100,000, or a total of 31,672 in 2010.
