If you or I had shot the guy, we'd have been placed in custody and questioned. The fact that McMichael wasn't shows favoritism, likely due to his former status within the law enforcement community.

This case is getting another look, and it would now appear as thought the feds may be getting involved. Since the allegations are of racial profiling, there are civil rights violations to consider and to investigate. The local boys don't get to do that...

He would have been within his legal right to shoot them when they brandished their guns if he'd been armed. I'm quite sure he would have been no-billed by reason of self-defense.
