This isn't surprising, especially in the world we live in today. It's a major reason why Canadian police like them young and like them poor.


Even though your teen is now as tall as you are it doesn’t mean that they have fully matured. Even though your teen may score high on the SAT or the ACT, it’s important to remember that a teen’s brain is still under development. In fact, if your child is a teenager, then you can bet that parts of their brain still need to grow and mature. For instance, there are obvious differences between the brains of adults and adolescents indicating that change, maturity, and transformation are still underway in teens.

The Pre-Frontal Cortex

One of the biggest differences researchers have found between adults and adolescents is the pre-frontal cortex. This part of the brain is still developing in teens and doesn’t complete its growth until approximately early to mid 20’s. The prefrontal cortex performs reasoning, planning, judgment, and impulse control, necessities for being an adult. Without the fully development prefrontal cortex, a teen might make poor decisions and lack the inability to discern whether a situation is safe. Teens tend to experiment with risky behavior and don’t fully recognize the consequences of their choices.

thats a good thing,, most 15 yr olds think they know everything,, but because their brains can still develope they have time to realize they dont know shit and have time to correct it,,
 
Today's Teen, that is most likely true as most younger adults are positive contributors to society until they reach 30 or older. Pretty sad really. Kids that are coddled are less productive adults. That has always been the case

But widely known and accepted for generations until recently when our culture became youth centric 15 years or so ago.
Isn't it interesting that at the same time science proved that teenagers and young adults are not capable of making critical decisions - that our culture began treating them as if they do?

That's why it is very dangerous for young minds to be subjected to the constant barrage of video and text input from cell phones and the internet. It has to be messing with their minds and is certainly psychologically addictive. Can anyone from the internet age 25 or younger stay off of screens for week? I watched an interview with "Dirty Jobs" guy Mike Rowe that we have 7 million able bodied adults who have checked out of the work force and spend their days glued to a screen. That does not bode well for America's future.
 
It is as people have said old news. What I think is interesting is that this does not seem to have changed how people treat them and on the negative side and something really quite recent, we are giving children, even very young children drugs to control their behaviour when we have no idea how they are going to affect the developing brain.

Yeah, important to know for teens, but not a reason to continue the myth that people in their 20s are not adults. As the article says, the pre-frontal cortex doesn't "complete its growth until approximately early to mid 20s".

So let's give our teens latitude but not, for goodness' sake, 22 year olds. They ARE adults.

They are young adults.
Becoming an adult is no different than any other human endeavor. When you are new at it, you need the advice and help from those who have been doing it longer.
A 22 year old still needs advice from good parents and older folks in their vocation. Just as we needed it.
When I was 22 years old. I was faar from being the man I became.
 
That's why the voting age should be raised to 25. These young voters are screwing up the country. :mad:
