Check out this chart. At one time, it was common to force kids who were lefthanded to write and use their right hands. Then people realized they weren't doing little Timmy any favors, and low and behold, the incidence of left-handedness went up to about 12% and has stayed there ever since.

Other studies or surveys simply asked a multiple choice question why they believe they turned out gay. If they were born that way, the studies would have not shown the environment as the reason.
