Accidental shooting at gun safety class

I've taught a lot of people to shoot. I've learned over the years to have detailed talks with your students well before letting them handle firearms or getting anywhere near the range. Looooooong before ammunition is introduced. They have to convince me they understand this is deadly serious before we go. Then I watch them like a hawk.

Learned it the hard way. While aiming at her target, one of my first students turned towards me with a question. In turning, she maintained her firing stance and swung her .44 until it was pointed right between my eyes. Her finger was on the trigger. I could hear her asking her question but I was too distracted to understand her words.

You have no idea how deep, how dark the barrel of a loaded .44 is. Or that time can stand completely still.
