An idea for a national holiday.

A Joe McCarthy Day would be like celebrating Gonorrhea.
Joe McCarthy was a hero who realized conspiring with enemy nations was treason.
Funny you should say that...

Joe McCarthy was a Republican who was hated by Democrats and other assorted Communists, Socialists and other sleazebags, just as they are today. "Nuff said.

Joe McCarthy was a Democrat when it paid to be a Democrat, a Republican when it paid to be a Republican, a liar when it paid to be a liar (which for him was forever) an opportunist every day of his short life, and a consummate fraud with no redeeming qualities whatsoever who would step on anything and anyone in pursuit of Numero Uno. The very model of the dishonest hack and an un-American if ever there was one.

>> Those of us who shout the loudest about Americanism in making character assassinations are all too frequently those who, by our own words and acts, ignore some of the basic principles of Americanism

The right to criticize.
The right to hold unpopular beliefs.
The right to protest.
The right of independent thought.

The exercise of these rights should not cost one single American citizen his reputation or his right to a livelihood nor should he be in danger of losing his reputation or livelihood merely because he happens to know someone who holds unpopular beliefs. Who of us does not? Otherwise none of us could call our souls our own. Otherwise thought control would have set in. The American people are sick and tired of being afraid to speak their minds lest they be politically smeared as "Communists" or "Fascists" by their opponents. Freedom of speech is not what it used to be in America. It has been so abused by some that it is not exercised by others.

.... The nation sorely needs a Republican victory. But I do not want to see the Republican party ride to political victory on the Four Horsemen of Calumny -- Fear, Ignorance, Bigotry, and Smear. I doubt if the Republican party could do so, simply because I do not believe the American people will uphold any political party that puts political exploitation above national interest. Surely we Republicans are not that desperate for victory. I do not want to see the Republican party win that way. While it might be a fleeting victory for the Republican party, it would be a more lasting defeat for the American people. Surely it would ultimately be suicide for the Republican party and the two-party system that has protected our American liberties from the dictatorship of a one-party system. << --- Sen. Margaret Chase Smith (R-ME), "Declaration of Conscience/Statement of Seven Republican Senators", June 1, 1950
When the nuisance that was McCarthy fell from grace, President Eisenhower dismissed his clownish grandstanding as "McCarthy-wasism". Good riddance to bad rubbish.

I was only interested in the Blacklisting of the Commies in Hollywood and would race home every day from school to watch the hearings. Every one of those people were either Commies or supportive of the bastards. During the 30s and 40s they were all up to their necks in communism, as they still are today. I have no sympathy for any of them.

Well then you need to fix that.
We have freedom of opinion in this country. When that's denied a citizen, you need to be on THEIR side.
Back in those days it was a felony to be a Communist. We had just finished a war with China and N. Korea and was in the early days of the Cold War. McCarthy was a drunken bum but he loved America. Unlike Commies and Democrat pukes today.

"Back in those daze" a man could get five to ten hard labor for refusing a mob's order to kiss a flag soooooooooooo........

There's a reason I spelled it "daze". It's the wages of Mob Mentality.

As I already said: UnAmerican. And make no mistake, McCarthy loved himself, that's it. Well, and gambling and drinking and womanizing. But he'd ass-sume any posture with no regard for principle or position*, if it got Numero Uno off. Let me know if that starts to sound familiar.

* if there's any doubt about that, answer this: how many names were on the "list I have in my hand"? Just give us a number.

Perhaps it could be on a weekend and your employer would have to let you have the option of working the day instead of having it off as well as all your wages for the day being exempt from taxation.

On Joe McCarthy Day you could go to work and declare "I have here in my hand 3,614 widgets I made today, so my work is done, I'm outta here, now here's my snivelling rat-faced lawyer to take over and ask stupid whiny gadfly questions" -- how many widgets did I make? 2568. Yes that's right, I said 7492. Wanna see my fake medals?"

:huh1:

McCarthy and his kind have endangered American liberty far more than any foreign enemy. Quit trying to whitewash, his legacy is sealed.
What a load of crap. American heroes like McCarthy knew who are nation's enemies were. We need more like him today.
