Since the Democrat Party has no intention of spekaing on behalf of "family values" they are bullet-proof on the charge of hypocrisy when any of them engage in such sordid behavior. But since The GOP does address and speak on behalf of "family values," any Republican who proves to have behaved immorally is not only targeted for his behavior but for hypocrisy. It's a twofer for free to the Democrats and liberals.

Now, if Republicans and conservatives in general don't have a damn heart attack over the behavior of Domenici, then they must all be hypocrites, too. Riiiiiiiiiiight.
