Over with who? You assume they wouldn't hit the nominee no matter who it was with everything they have? That's not how it works. They made Romney out to be a villain no matter what he did. At least Trump gives it back to them, Romney proved that the nice guy, don't attack back routine is doomed to failure when dealing with the left.

In fact, you can see it in operation during the primary season. Whenever a candidate starts to surge out in front, they immediately are attacked.
