First time sitting on the subcommittee. Has apologized for speaking without being "fully briefed", says he "shot an airball". Pretty dumb, but I bet he won't do it again. I don't know enough about the guy to judge him racist and I don't think there's enough in the story to convict him of it either.

But - doesn't he have a least one experienced aide to give him a heads-up on what to expect? Why didn't he at least skim the witness list that would have told him exactly who he would be questioning? Looks dumb but a lot of people put their foot in it first day on the job. Worth checking in on in a month or so.
