If the entire U.S. public education system were able to get a grade for civics education, there is no letter in the alphabet that is low enough to mark an accurate grade.

Social Security and Medicare are both unconstitutional. Nothing in Article I gives Congress the right to create a compulsory retirement system or a geezer healthcare insurance system. They are unconstitutional, pure and simple. But they were able to get around this minor problem by creating a fictitious "trust fund" that is funded by "payroll taxes" that are separate from FIT and other Federal revenues.

Because we still pay lip service to this accounting gimmick, we periodically have anxiety attacks as we project the depletion of the fictitious trust fund for SS. IT HAS BEEN SUGGESTED that "we" abandon the trust fund and simply budget for Social Security in the same way as we budget and pay for everything else. IT WOULD BE NOTHING MORE THAN AN ACCOUNTING CHANGE, and would have ZERO EFFECT on anyone's benefits.

But Democrats, as they always do, jump on this and try to frighten weak-minded geezers, telling them that if the evil Republicans get their way, their monthly checks (deposits) will be in danger.
