Just maybe the last thirty years we have started to move from that mentality and even then many to hold onto their heritage and ways...

So the melting pot idea is just an idea...

Very good point. My high school was integrated- we had 2 black students enrolled- and we didn't have any problems either.

But it wasn't forced, and we didn't have buses at all, as it was a private institution.

Biden wanted societal integration and saw busing as a way for racists to keep neighborhoods segregated but still meet school diversity requirements. Read the article, by 'jungle' he meant full of animosity...not full of black people. As in, keeping black people segregated and unequal but busing them to wealthy white schools would cause resentment.

32 years later he had no issues 8 years being 2nd to a half black president.
