Much of the funds were from federally guaranteed loans to individual states, all of which paid back their loans. So, it's not so much about the amount, rather, it's abour the management of the funds and projects the funds' finance.

Not all deficits are bad. Running deficits to help with national emergencies or economic downturns is almost always necessary. That means when things are going well, you should be trying to run a balanced budget.

Trump did the opposite. The economy was fine, things were going well, and he decided to blow up the deficit for very little benefit.

That and a huge portion of our current “stimulus” is no doubt very, very wasteful.

Not all deficits are bad. Running deficits to help with national emergencies or economic downturns is almost always necessary. That means when things are going well, you should be trying to run a balanced budget.

Trump did the opposite. The economy was fine, things were going well, and he decided to blow up the deficit for very little benefit.

That and a huge portion of our current “stimulus” is no doubt very, very wasteful.

I think you are missing a large portion of facts. We could have spent money on things that the democrats were wanting like more green fuels for airplanes but we didn't.
We could have had a more balanced budget if we could have shut down snap or other welfare programs. We could have saved money if we pulled out of NATO or South Korea. We could have saved money if we stopped all the wars. We could have a better budget if we did not have to track down illegal immigrants that were protected. The fact of the matter is all spending by government is usually at least in part wasteful and unnecessary.

The whole point of the post was and is that democrats are always trying to defend spending when it is their party doing it while they fail to see the same defense by the republican side.
