1. He knows that if he doesn't debate, the charges against his incompetence will be verified
2. He knows that the MSM will manipulate the coverage of the debates in his favor.

He's relying on the MSM to bail him out again, as they did in 2020. We know that selective reporting caused Trump the 2020 election, as the media and big tech either suppressed or censored major stories that exit polling data says would have swayed voters enough to give Trump pretty much all the swing states.

So what we will see is a tag-team of Trump hating moderators cutting off Trump, "fact checking him constantly" while letting Joe read all his responses.
