Some here regularly blame Obama for not dealing with the border (ignoring past Presidents who left it wide open), but they are seriously behind the times. Our southern border now is as secure as it's ever been.

Hey, don't blame me. Somebody started a thread wondering why there are no threads about Obama's successes, so I'm just meeting that demand.

Of course, it goes without saying that any thread which reveals good things Obama has done, and is doing, will be cluttered up with folks trying to give Bush credit for it and then, when that fails, it'll just quietly die because there are far more Nutter's here than anybody else.

God knows, nobody from the right can be seen publicly giving Obama credit for anything. It would totally destroy the GOP meme, wouldn't it?

In spite of the decreased demand for illegal labor because of the economy (which is arguable given that replacing American workers with illegals is a quick, easy way to maximize profit during hard times), the Obama administration has adopted strategies the previous 4 President's did not:

1. He's doubled the number of officers on the border.

2. He's employed new technologies which make tracking and capturing illegals far easier.

3. He's strengthened and extended that fence the right used always holler was needed. Know why you don't hear that from them anymore? Because it's done, that's why.

4. Most importantly, his administration is legally deporting illegals, rather than just practicing the old "catch and release." In case you don't know, catch and release simply took people back to the border and turned them loose. There was nothing to prevent them coming right back and trying again because there were no consequences for being caught a second or third or fourth or twentieth time.

Deportation, however, leaves a record of that person in a database and, if they are caught again, they're looking at some very serious jail time. Moreover, when a person is deported, he's taken back to the border as far away from where he came in as is possible to prevent him linking up with the same coyote again.

5. When known criminals wanted in Mexico are caught here, they go through the legal deportation process and then are handed DIRECTLY to Mexican law enforcement on the border. A huge number of drug cartel underlings are now in Mexican prisons because of that.

Like it or not, but Barack Obama is doing what George Bush, Bill Clinton, G.H.W. Bush, Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter, Gerald Ford and Richard Nixon failed to do: He's effectively closed the southern border.
