The key distinction which should be made in many of these "gay" issues is between orientation and behavior. Just as in the military, it is extremely detrimental for members of cohesive groups to have sexual relations with one another. In all-male organizations, there is a valid concern that an openly gay member would be interested in having, or promoting, sexual relations within that organization. Otherwise, why would there be a need to publicize one's sexual orientation?
