to a point many of our programs do have "socialism" built into them. maybe not much, but it's there. the "progressive left" is all for it and many new senators and congressmen are for it.

Everyone seems to support some form of socialism.

The people on the "right" never seem to complain about farmers getting 20 billion or so a year in what would be called "wealth redistribution" if it were going to poor inner city people. There was no bitching by the "right" when they got an extra 12 billion to offset the damage of the trade war.

Thank you for proving my point for me. I understand why we do what we do with farming subsidies, though it has less to do with the cost of a can of corn and more about keeping that cost relatively the same year after year.

But it is just as much "socialism" as anything else we have in this country.

like i said - there's some socialism in much of what we do. we've just done it for so long it doesn't seem that way.

i do think some more of it will need to be added in for a variety of reasons but i also see why it won't be easy. the crowd asking for it is the same crowd saying we are not coming for your guns, we're just coming for your guns.

i'm not for single payer health care for the simple reason that does nothing to resolve the rising costs of healthcare, just demands someone else pay for it. our laws, regulations, education and doctor fees and so forth coupled into an insurance company in the middle that also makes money makes a direct comparison to socialism impossible but we do it anyway and pretend all those hurdles are not there. we need a gov sponsored medical education where you pay for it via an internship in gov run hospitals. those who can't afford the standard health care are welcome here. lots of work on that idea needed, but it is something to start with at least vs. bitch cause no one is doing something.
