It's not widely known, but during the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster in Ukraine, WW2-era Soviet armor was called upon to attack the damaged reactor.

I remember seeing ISU-152 tank destroyers in a aerial view and was wondering why there.

The Chernobyl site was one of the first locations secured by the Russians.

They were well aware of the dangers as Russia sits directly downrange from the plant.

You can bet that those cooling systems are fully operational.
