I worked in my home vegetable garden when I was 5. I learned how to use tools and I gained a sense of accomplishment when I saw the crops grow. I got my first paying job when I was 15 as a dishwasher. I felt so good that I could work for my own money and buy things I couldn't otherwise afford. So YES. I'm all for teaching Americans how to work at a young age. Screw the pussy Libs who disagree.

I pulled tobacco from 10-14 but it wasn't something people did every day. It is hard work, but it paid ok (great for a 10-14 year old) if you were part of a productive team. It made me hungry as a horse by the time I got home. The farm owner would usually ask if we wanted them to feed us, but we usually declined just so we could get home and get out of the heat and the nasty clothes.
The only people I know that had real health issues were the ones who worked the barns, but a lot of those people would chew the leaves too.
