Good way for a kid to learn what hard work is all about and a way to put some cash in his pocket. That's a lot better than learning how to smoke a joint or rob a liquor store.

Working on a family farm/ranch is not inclusive to a corporate owned /profitable company exploiting minors.

I pulled tobacco from 10-14 but it wasn't something people did every day. It is hard work, but it paid ok (great for a 10-14 year old) if you were part of a productive team. It made me hungry as a horse by the time I got home. The farm owner would usually ask if we wanted them to feed us, but we usually declined just so we could get home and get out of the heat and the nasty clothes.

The only people I know that had real health issues were the ones who worked the barns, but a lot of those people would chew the leaves too.
