'Designer' babies are I think inevitable. Gattaca's already here in certain regards, can greatly increase the odds of having specific traits if not yet guarantee them. But that's only a matter of time. There's some good things about such capability, reduce or eliminate children born with chronic conditions like avoiding suffering. But we've evolved to this point because of variation and adaptability. Eliminating that feels wrong.

Universe itself owes its existence to imperfect distribution of mass early on. If it had been perfectly distributed the first stars would never have formed and we wouldn't be here. Something to be said for natural imperfections then.
