Clapping banned at Oxford University to stop people being triggered

You know Tommy, I have hazel eyes with a higher than average gold streaks in them. This phenomena (both hazel and significant gold coloration) less than 1% of the population has this.
Sounds cool, but having such a bright colorization really means I have almost no melanin in those streaks. And that means significant sensitivity to bright lights.
Having said all of this, I would not expect every where I go - lights should be turned down so I am comfortable.
I guess I am just not a jerk in that way.

The British are screwed up all the way around.

Clapping banned at Oxford University to stop people being triggered | Metro News

Students at the University of Oxford have voted to ‘replace clapping’ with a silent wave because it ‘could trigger anxiety’. They are instead being told to use ‘jazz hands’, where they wave their hands in the air. The motion to ‘mandate the encouragement of silent clapping’ was successfully passed by the university’s student union officers, following their first meeting of the year on Tuesday. It will come apply at student union events, and if successful, rolled out to other societies and events.

What an uplifting story. In a hard hearted world we seem to be coming more thoughtful in many ways.

My own football club, the mighty Wrexham, has an autism friendly section of the ground. Youngsters with autism sit in a quieter area of the ground and are given ear defenders amongst other things. it is much appreciated.

Boy....you have been castrated by left wing asshatism.....

I remember the old days when Clinton raped that girl at Oxford. They just hustled him out of the country before anyone got triggered. Now Oxfordites get triggered by clapping? That sounds pretty unstable to me.

First of all, it is to be fervently hoped that the stupid term "triggered" will soon fade from use.
As for 'football', it is so far removed from autism that linking the two ascends to the sublimely absurd.
Trying to enforce on the vast majority a restriction that cannot demonstrably benefit even a tiny minority is not 'considerate', 'civilized', 'compassionate' and above all not logical.
These constant distractions from the fundamental issues only serve the division and conquest sought by power hungry entities.

The term "triggered" was used by the newspaper rather than the University I believe.
I disagree about football and autism. Football should be accessible to all and I have seen at first hand that the measures taken can make a huge difference.

Here is an article from the club website.
CLUB NEWS | The Racecourse Becomes An Autism Friendly Stadium

Wrexham v AFC Fylde on Tuesday, 7th August 2018 marked the beginning of the Racecourse becoming an Autism Friendly Stadium for every home game this season.

Wrexham AFC, through our Disablity Liason Officer, Kerry Evans, has worked very closely with Kerry Roberts, the branch officer at Wrexham National Autistic Society and a 'Walk About' session took place on Wednesday, 1st August where the stadium was open for autistic fans during a quiet time, showing them the reserved seating area with close by toilet facilities.

As repetition is of great importance, they were also shown the route they will take to enter and exit the stadium take each game they attend.

They will be arriving early while the stadium is much quieter. At the end of the game they are also welcome to stay seated until the stadium has cleared of fans before they exit.

We are providing a quiet area away from the crowd for parents/carers to utilise if they so wish during the match itself. We have also purchased ear defenders to help cut down the noise level of the crowd.

We also pleased to offer a seat based food/drink order service where we will deliver directly to their seats rather than having to enter a busy and noisy concourse.

Wrexham AFC steward Amy Davies has been allocated this area on a permanent basis to become familiar face to the autistic fans.

Kerry Roberts will soon be speaking to all staff and volunteers to give them a better insight into what autistic people go through on a daily basis and how important repetition is to their daily routine.

National Autistic Society representative Sarah Morgan came from Cardiff on Friday to look around the stadium to see our proposal first hand who said Wrexham Football Club have gone above and beyond what the Autistic Society would consider necessary to making this a sucess.

So all is needed now is to get the word out to everyone that autistic football fans are made very welcome to our club.

If you missed the last quiet walkabout but are interested in attending another one then please get in touch with Kerry Evans, Disability Liaison Officer at Wrexham AFC on email : [email protected]

This was over a year ago and we have seen many people now enjoying coming to the matches because of it.

I see the Oxford initiative in the same light and the hostility on here has rather shocked me. Nobody is being inconvenienced and nobody is being charge or taxed to deliver it. Its baffling.

These are the grandchildren of the Brits that defeated the Nazis.

I wonder if those who lost their lives in WWII, would think it was worth it ?

Oxford University bans clapping, replaces with jazz hands to avoid triggering anxiety

OXFORD, UK (WTHR) — Attention, students and staff — clapping is no longer allowed.

Oxford University has banned clapping and instead opted for (silently) waving.

The university passed a mandate to encourage "silent clapping," Metro reported. The mandate will apply to student union events and eventually be rolled out to societies and events. Oxford students argued that alternatives to clapping already existed in some organizations and institutions and that the school should follow suit. The ban comes after the University of Manchester passed a similar motion in September last year.

"Jazz hands" — or silently waving — is the sign language for expressing applause, Metro reported. The sign is also more inclusive and inclusivity is one of the Students' Union's founding principles.

The Brits are getting it from Snowflake "Dimwinger Socialists" here.

I wonder if they're still looking for Clinton for that rape he committed there. It would be kinda weird if they got all triggered over clapping hands but let a little rape slide. This is exactly the kind of logic that rightly leads people to believe liberals are ignoramuses and nincompoops.
