Ariel Castro was a very sick man. That does not excuse his actions or absolve him of anything, and he got what he deserved, but do remember that he was a human being also and he was sick. We tend to just assume criminals like this are deranged people who are otherwise normal, when in fact something was very wrong with them mentally for a very long time. In order to prevent people like this from committing similar crimes, it is important to understand that people who do these types of things really are sick and need help. If we can diagnose them, and get them the help they need, we could stop the next Ariel Castro from becoming the sick deranged person who commits horrible acts upon other human beings.

He knew what he was doing was wrong, that why he hid what he did, and that why he killed himself

It's still a travesty that a scumbag of this degree wasn't quickly executed upon conviction.
Why he was given a sentence of life imprisonment at the taxpayer's expense is beyond me.
