That's what I was taught as a young Catholic.

As far as chivalry goes, I teach my sons that when walking with a female, always walk on the roadside part of the sidewalk, and always open the car door for your woman. I also tell my boys to treat females the same way they would want someone to treat their sisters.

My daughters know these rules, too, and they excitedly tell me when a boy observes these things, which is very rare these days.
