Just days after Vice President JD Vance's March visit to Pituffik Space Base in Greenland, the installation commander sent out an email to the base distancing it from Vance’s criticism of Denmark and its oversight of the territory, Military.com has learned.

Col. Susan Meyers, the commander of the 821st Space Base Group who also oversees the Pentagon's northernmost military base, sent a March 31 message to all personnel at Pituffik seemingly aimed at generating unity among the airmen and Guardians, as well as the Canadians, Danes and Greenlanders who work there, following Vance's appearance. She wrote that she "spent the weekend thinking about Friday's visit -- the actions taken, the words spoken, and how it must have affected each of you."

"I do not presume to understand current politics, but what I do know is the concerns of the U.S. administration discussed by Vice President Vance on Friday are not reflective of Pituffik Space Base," Meyers wrote in the email, which was communicated to Military.com.

Colonel Susannah Meyers was assigned to lead Pituffik Space Base in July 2024.....Biden DEI hire.

WAG: She's eligible for retirement and wanted to make a "statement."

Doesn't mean she's retiring as a colonel.....Insubordination.

UCMJ and reduce to last honorable served rank. Break it off in her.

I'm not seeing anything wrong with this statement to a base that is a multinational force.

I of course, wonder why we even HAVE a space force to start with, but that's another discussion.

Doesn't matter if it's multinational the Commander is US military and it's basic UCMJ, don't make political statements in uniform.

With the private sectors increasing involvement in space travel the industry is set to explode. A dedicated Military branch with a separate budget from the other branches looking after US interest is a must.

On an entirely unrelated note when Space Force has a Space Shuttle Door Gunner MOS recruitment is going to go through the roof. If they would waive the age requirement I would sign up.

We should bomb Greenland just for having a place called Pituffik.

Except she didn't make a political statement She said to ignore politics and just do your job.

Uh, no, guy, we don't need a space force, especially since we don't even have a dedicated vehicle.

Can't be a Space Shuttle Gunner if you've mothballed all your space shuttles.

Using military email to disparage the Vice President was beyond stupid and I would make the same statement no matter who was in office.

And in this I fully agree.

Before I retired, I served under 7 US Presidents. And I would have expected the same actions to be taken no matter who the President was at the time. And the military has rather clear policies about things like that.

And it really makes me question her competence to lead, as this is why she would have a staff in the first place. Specifically, a Public Affairs Officer who she should have sent the draft to so they could go over it to make sure it is not in violation of multiple military orders and regulations. And probably her Staff Advocate as well, just to make double sure.

This is the kind of danger senior military officers can get into when they do not operate through their staff and think they can do it all on their own.

Although I have to wonder, where in the hell can they send her to now? I mean, she is already in Greenland. Even being sent to the Alaska would not be much of a change from that.

It is irrelevant what her political opinions are. What is appalling is that she thought she could openly defy THE COMMANDER IN CHIEF, and keep her job.

That is disturbing. I do not believe I served with any career soldiers who would even consider such an outrageous communication.
