So I just got a bill from CT stating I owe $45K and have a couple of weeks to appeal or apparently get incarcerated. No wonder folks are moving out of NY, CT, etc. to Florida and states that are not corrupt cesspools and function fine without personal income tax. They want to install tolls on I-95 again and do other things to sabotage economic activity and personal liberty.

It sounds like someone is trying to scam you, and not necessarily the government.

Thanks for the reply, but it was a letter. They sent one a few months ago saying I am going to be audited and have an opportunity to work a deal. Now they send me a bill and give me a couple weeks to have a "hearing" to respond. Very sad. Guilty until proven innocent is NOT the America my father and grandfather fought for in the world wars.

Pay your bill, or are you trying to emulate that obese orange crook in the white house?

BULLDOG, politics is not the issue, CT and NY have overpaid their employees and promised them significant pensions so they tax the fuck out of taxpaying citizens and threaten them with jail time. That is why so many folks who actually worked for a living move out of CT and NY to states that do not hire idiots who failed accounting 101 and write letters to citizens demanding payments they should not pay. I know I am innocent, it is just a major issue as to how to prove I am innocent without hiring a lawyer, etc.

You whining about having to pay what you owe is the issue.

why did you ignore the first IRS letter? as far as the tolls - i have no problem bringing them back on the borders of NY, Mass, & RI. lots of out of staters come in for the casinos - or being that CT is a small state, they drive thru.... using our interstates & don't even stop to gas up.

i'm curious if you live east or west of the river?

I find you to be a dubious poster at best. Are you willing to post a redacted copy of the bill you claim to have received?

marijuana legalization is right around the corner & will help ease the tax burden. ned lamont is a (D) & he won bigley over the (R) douche who got an A from the NRA & gave trump an A+. the state legislature also turned a blue majority.

neener neener.

So have you been paying your taxes or not?

Seems to me you’re either JoeyB Dolezaling us or you’ve omitted pertinent info in an attempt to bash the government rather than take responsibility for your own actions.

You got a letter saying you owe $45K and only two weeks to appeal or a possible trip to the slammer. All this after a letter a “few months” earlier announcing you’re being audited and offering a deal? As one who’s run the the IRS audit gauntlet a time or two, it sounds like you didn’t do all you should have after the first letter, so now you’ve been advised of possible consequences and, to you, it’s all their fault.

1st of all, CT isn't canada.
2nd of all, we are a very small state
3rd of all, mass, VT, & maine are already legal. RI, will be going legal, & NY, & NJ are on the cusp of saying they will.

4th - i never said it's the total solution.... but will certainly make a dent. considering all our border states are or will be going green, it would be incredibly stoooopid not to join the party.

Hey, welcome to the bright side!

Update: I have dealt with IRS "audits" in the past and they will at least specify what specific item they have an issue with. They ask for documentation and ultimately reply that everything is cleared up.

As far as CT Dept. of Revenue Services (no affiliation with the IRS) I have heard they do not reply that everything is cleared up, but stop sending warnings once the taxpayer proves they are innocent. So anyhoo, I sent the Dept of Revenue Services a form they have online for folks who dare question their incompetence and stupidity and provide possible explanations. Well, that was about a month ago and no response...until the other day I got the bill again this time saying there will be no further contact and if I do not pay immediately they have the right to steal money from my accounts. I called the diverse agency up and was patched through to a nice Indian dude who although had an Indian accent, was relatively articulate in basic English words. Better than typical Indian "customer service" idiots. Unfortunately he did not know shit about finance, accounting and taxation, although he thought he did. I asked if he could email me a screen dump of what their database is saying about me. He said no, so I said please place a note on my "case" that I will provide documentation next week because I do not want to have to sue to get my money back they steal or deal with tax enforcement clowns knocking on my door. Folks, I just checked and discovered the idiots in the CT Dept of Revenue Services treat any money you invest as "income" when the investment is closed out. For example, if you invest $100K in a 6 month CD at 1.5%, when it comes due these morons consider both the $100K and the $750 interest income as taxable income. :p

The real unconstitutionalityof the income tax is the way they collect it. As Snouter said, guilty until proven innocent, this turns the Constitution on it's head. The government thinks they own you, own and control 100% of your income and that they alone set the terms for which you may keep a certain percentage.
