On April 5, 2010, when asked why congressional members were exempt from the recently passed health care reform bill, she stated that they were not exempt.

When asked about the "dirty deals" in the legislation, referencing the Cornhusker Kickback and the deals for Louisiana and other states, Congressman Wasserman-Schultz announces that there were no such deals in the legislation. She then goes on to state that the legislation was one of the most open and heavily vetted pieces of legislation, citing a historic conference with the President.

When asked where in the Constitution Congress gets the Authority to compel citizens to purchase a product such as insurance, the Congressman asserts that no such provision exists in the health care legislation. She then states that insurance will be factored into a persons taxable income status in the same way that owning a home does.
