Why? Less turnout comes from a boring primary, which comes from a unified party. High turnout comes from an exciting contested primary, meaning a divided party. In the general election, unified beats divided.

If Trump generated millions of votes on the Republican side in New York we would be saying the Democrat party is finished because that would mean that about a million Democrats switched parties in the course of less than a year to vote for Trump.
