Yup - lincoln controlled the north and could have freed the slaves there but he chose not to. Instead he issued the EP which specifically stated it only applied to the rebel states - states he had no control over.!!! The EP freed no slaves. It was a PR stunt to keep france and england out of the war and it worked at doing that.

Lincoln had no legal authority to free the slaves in the States that were not in rebellion. Lincoln worked for gradual and compensated emancipation in states like Delaware- but Delaware rejected the plan.

The Emancipation proclamation immediately freed an estimated 20,000 slaves, and by the end of the war, the Emancipation Proclamation freed almost all slaves in the Confederacy.

Lincoln was instrumental in pushing forward the 13th Amendment- an amendment which I suspect that you still object to.
