The FBI wants to interview Donald Trump after he was injured during an assassination attempt at a campaign rally earlier this month, a report says.
An FBI official speaking anonymously told the New York Times that they have asked to interview the former president as part of their investigation into the incident.
"The bureau has asked to interview Mr. Trump as part of its broader investigation, hoping to provide insights into the shooting and possibly a more complete record of his injury, the official said, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss the continuing inquiry," the NYT report says.
It comes after FBI Director Christopher Wray said that it was not clear whether Trump was injured by a bullet or hit by shrapnel when a gunman opened fire at his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13.

Videos from the rally show Trump ducking after shots were fired before being quickly escorted off stage by Secret Service agents. The former president was then pictured with blood dripping from his right ear.
During his testimony before the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday, FBI Director Wray, a Trump appointee and Republican, expressed uncertainty about whether Trump was struck by a bullet or shrapnel.
Trump wrote: "FBI Director Christopher Wray told Congress yesterday that he wasn't sure if I was hit by shrapnel, glass, or a bullet (the FBI never even checked!), but he was sure that Crooked Joe Biden was physically and cognitively 'uneventful' - Wrong!"

Commentary:
I agree that an exhaustive investigation seems mandatory. One of our major politicians was involved in a shooting incident at a political rally; a rally involved in our Country's Presidential election process.
We, Americans, deserve to know the best, most thoroughly examined information as is possible as to what happened on July 13th.
Making the information available to the People is nearly impossible given the operations and involvement of past FBI actions.
If Trump is to meet with the FBi, it's extremely important that his attorney and physcian be present at the interview.
Political violence is not the answer. Disagreeing with policy is not cause for violence. lately, our political rhetoric has become too hate filled. Even though the vast majority of people recognize rhetoric, there are people who will take the calls for violence to heart.
The concept of Democrat neo-marxist propaganda is not to establish a new truth. It’s to create so much chaff that you can’t establish what the truth is. The average person gives up trying. They are throwing up chaff.
It's obvious that Wray and his Neo-Marxist travelers want to make up a lie and leak it out that a secret document determined the wound was not from a bullet, then state they can not comment on a pending investigation and let the lie fester, just like they did with 'Hunters laptop' and the 'Pee on the bed' documents.
This is an attempt at a total set up!
What everyone has missed is that oddly that the Crooks was not killed until after he was able to get off eight shots..

Trump won't fall for it. He should be very forthright and say, "The FBI has chosen to have an adversarial relationship with me from before I entered the White House. They can send any written questions to me through my lawyer."

Who cares if "they" say that he has something to hide? They'd say that anyway, no matter what Trump does.

Reagan won that election almost 3 1/2 years after being shot. The shooting had nothing to do with his reelection, which was due to an incredibly inept former VP for Jimmy Carter running.
