The word "please" does not sound like a cease and desist order. The article linked says FDA had no problem with the test accuracy, but the returning of results directly to the user empowering them, without going through a medical professional. Allowing people to take their own health situation into their own hands apparently requires permissions from big government even if it is a test of know accuracy, favored by the president of Big Federal Government. Not sure of all the implications here, but does not seem to have nefarious actions by Gates Foundation or University of Washington Medicine.

Liked the post. That "Gates center for world sterilization" was a nice touch, though should have capitalized each word of that title to make it sound more official and send the innocents scurrying out to the web to look up GCWS, just for $hits and giggles.

I first became interested in Donald Trump in the early 1980's when I was working for Bank of Montreal. Young, brash, good looking guy setting New York on fire. Trump Tower. He looked golden. But it was fool's gold.

His initial success was followed with a lot of failure. His big waterfront project in New York was mired in allegations of bribery, corruption, and bullying long time residents and businesses into selling cheap. His attempt to use Eminent Domain to force the elderly to sell to him was particularly odious.

Stories abounded about slow payments and lawsuits. By the 1990's I had written him off, even before the bankruptcies. Trump elevated bankruptcy to a profitable business, bragging he walked away from his first bankruptcy with $40 million in his pocket. Hundred of small investors lost their life savings. Trump has bankrupted not just his own businesses, but left of trail of bankruptcy and even suicides in the wake of his law suits and business failures.

Trump's Presidency is following his business career. He's using the courts to block oversight and accountability in the same way he used the courts to fleece subtrades and attack his enemies. Frivolous lawsuits. Blocking Congressional testimony. Dragging out investigations of wrong doing. Fighting every single subpoena and Motion. Now that the government is paying his legal bills, he can afford to fight all the way to the SC which he's packed with appointees.

He's firing the IG's to remove oversight of the bailout programs and funnelling money to his friends, his donors and his own corporation, despite the prohibitions in the laws that Trump companies cannot apply.

The Senate voted today to give us five more years of pretty much unaltered surveillance. The reauthorization of key spy powers is back on again, after Congressional inaction ran head-on into a global pandemic, allowing these to (briefly) expire. Not that this temporary expiration resulted in any less surveillance. And with this overwhelming vote in favor of resumed spying, it will probably only be a matter of days before a consolidated bill ends up on Trump’s desk. Despite his continual agitation against the "Deep State," Trump is expected to give these powers his official blessing.

The Senate on Thursday overwhelmingly voted to reauthorize three national security surveillance authorities that have been expired since March.
The chamber voted 80-16 to extend the surveillance authorities under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.
The vote occurred after the Senate adopted a bipartisan amendment on Wednesday from Republican Sen. Mike Lee of Utah and Democratic Sen. Patrick Leahy of Vermont to provide additional legal protections in the FISA court for targets of surveillance warrants. The Senate’s amendment means the House will have to pass the new version of the legislation before it goes to the President’s desk.

The additional protections in the amendment would expand outside review of FISA surveillance cases. The USA Freedom Act allowed for the appointment of amicus curiae (outside, neutral advocates) at the court’s discretion. This amendment makes it a bit more mandatory, requiring the court to appoint one in any case involving "sensitive investigative matters." That covers a lot of ground, but the amendment was written with the targeting of US persons in mind.
