First It Was Santa Claus

If there can be a black "Annie" than surely a white man could play Malcolm X without complaint. Didn't the race baiters have some kind of fit a few years ago when a white man dared play Othello?

Let's see...Malcolm X - real guy. Annie - comic strip fictional character.

Yep! The SAME!

So wait, since Annie was based off of a real orphan and then her short story became so popular it turned into plays, movies and then a comic strip, it means she is fictional?

Malcolm X also had a comic book series loosely based on his story it would be the same, yes?

I think the little girl they chose for the part is absolutely adorable and there is no issue with having any other color person play Annie. Except, one should assure the her situation in the orphanage is not depicted as racist with white care takers being abusive.

But those who may argue she is white may not be racist but 'traditionalists" ( of course some will say RACIST) , she was a white girl, whose short story spawned plays, movies, Raggedy Anne dolls, etc. .

Kinda like the fictional character Othello. However, having a white actor play Othello should not be questioned, many believe traditionally he was black and 'traditionalists" argued he should be portrayed in that manner, but Shakespeare is a brand no one owns as Ben Arogundade argues. So allow the diversity for the role. The same traditionalists argued when a woman was cast as Othello. It does not mean it is always racist IMO.
