Congress needs to look at entitlements as well as healthcare. This is the Trustees Report conclusion, that the trust funds will be depleted in 2023-2028 unless Congress acts:

KEY DATES FOR THE TRUST FUNDS
OASI DI OASDI HI
First year cost exceeds income excluding interest 2010 2019 2010 2015
First year cost exceeds total income 2022 2019 2020 2021
Year trust funds are depleted 2035 2023 2034 2028

Trustees Report Summary

Quite simple really. If we want to have these programs, we have to fund these programs. We need to increase payroll deductions for both programs right now. When was the last time there was a payroll increase for either of these entitlements? And yes, if most people are getting back much more than they pay in, they are entitlements.

/---- Social Security is not an entitlement. I paid into it. Medicaid is funded with my income tax. If you get it for free then it an entitlement.

for $9 more bucks out of your check each month, SS is 100% FIXED.

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY TOO EASY ... lets make it political so we can bitch about it for years.

the Social Security tax bite could be increased from 6.2 percent to 7.2 percent for workers and employers in 2022, and to 8.2 percent in 2052, which would also completely eliminate the shortfall.

TAX INCREASE ??????? :ack-1: REPUBLICANS are having strokes in the aisle and dying over 1% ... screw that lets just wipe out the entire SS program.

Well, DumBama had an all Democrat federal government for his first two years. What were his proposals or solutions?

Okay, increase the age when you can collect SS, but the people making such proposals are those with a suit and tie where the heaviest thing they lift all day is their briefcase.

As far as Democrats go, they don't want to raise funding either. Why? Because people may turn on those programs and demand the elimination of them. Democrats don't want that. They don't want people taking care of themselves when they get older, they want government to be in charge of that.

Okay, so neither party wants to fix it. Just let it keep going in the hole until they explode; let somebody else deal with the problem down the road.

Why fix a political club that each party can beat the opposition over the head with come election time? Hell if they actually sat down and fixed everything they'd have to fuck something else up just to have political ammo.............

Insinuating that Democrats are all for tax increases for the programs.

We're in the wrong business........

If the GOP does a strict repeal of ACA and then the Dems & GOP need to put up a new system with 60-votes, then it seems logical to fix SS & Medicare at the same time, i.e. a no-fault fix or no-blame fix.

Here's what they should do and agree on.

First is to repair some of the damage caused by Democrats with Commie Care. The Republicans want to give businesses tax breaks, so why not give tax breaks to employers who bring back their private healthcare coverage that they got rid of because of Commie Care?

Next is the preexisting conditions issue. Forcing insurance companies to provide coverage to people with preexisting conditions only raises premiums for everybody else and thus becomes unaffordable. So for people with preexisting conditions, allow them to buy into Medicare just like people who are on disability. If you are on disability, you can choose from several Medicare plans from a couple hundred bucks up. It's affordable, will get preexisting condition people out of private insurance, and meet Democrats half-way on what they want which is Medicare for all.

Congress will never get the job done. They know how to do one thing and one thing only (besides passing laws that further erode your personal freedoms and privacy) .....

These boobs won't do a thing until we have a crisis.

3% of the population uses 50% of the medical resources. So if we put the sickest 3% into Medicare it will go broke unless we taxpayers pay for it. Instead of Medicare, consider Medicaid since that is more for people with no money and can't afford real insurance. Problem is, Medicaid is going bankrupt.

Medicaid is also bankrupting states across the country. But like I said, Medicare for preexisting conditions would not be free. They would still have to pay extra into the program. After all, this is what we do with people on disability now.

So we don't want to bankrupt Medicare. The only alternative is bankrupting people that buy private insurance be it themselves or their employers. One of the reasons premiums keep going up is Medicare only pays about 2/3 of the charges for their patients. In order for doctors or facilities to recoup the losses, they have to increase prices. But the law is you can't have two sets of prices: one for private insurance and the other for government. You have to increase prices for all.

In other words, one way or another, we are all going to end up paying for it. The question is who do we send the bills to.
